When we first started our little adventure 14 months ago. TRUST was one thing very high on the agenda. In this line of work and being a new business TRUST was how this business was going to grow. I implemented a few working practices to set about gaining TRUST from the outset. These included :
Signed deliveries - So that our clients had proof of delivery.
Delivering in lieu of payment - To build TRUST with our new clients, showing that we are prepared to do the work before we get paid. Giving our clients the chance to see that their mail and parcels have been delivered.
No contracts - It’s your mail and parcels, no one has the right to tie you down with the incentive of marginally cheaper postage if you send certain amounts.
When we started everybody wanted to pay that premium for signed deliveries, proof of delivery, and we totally accepted that it was necessary to ensure that we were genuine. With a lot of our parcel clients coming up to their 1 year anniversary before Christmas, not a single one of our clients now pays the premium for a proof of delivery. The reason for this is TRUST, they now know that we don’t ‘lose’ parcels ‘in the system’. We have never had a denial of receipt, a misdelivery, a theft, a damaged item or a parcel go missing. They know we deliver every time, they know we don’t leave parcels in a ‘safeplace’ to be taken or allegedly taken.
So, here is the thing about TRUST if a courier loses a parcel and loses your TRUST, what you should do is find an alternative and find a courier you TRUST. What we actually do is pay the courier we don’t TRUST a premium on top of our usual parcel price to try to ensure a successful delivery. We reward couriers who have lost our TRUST, think about it, it’s madness.
