2 Years 🎉of Local Postal Solutions - The Story so far, part 1 of 3 - The beginning.

The whole concept of Local Postal Solutions started many years before July 2023 when we were effectively born. The reason why it never started earlier was quite simple, sending letters was still affordable and good value. But since COVID, across the board corporate companies have set about fleecing the nation as they tighten their grip on cornering every market they hold. Gas, electricity, water, travel, food and mail all contributing to the spiralling demise of the great British publics finances. After 16 years of working for what I originally thought was an amazing company to work for Royal Mail. I soon began to realise that since it’s privatisation this was not an organisation I wanted to be a part of. I am not going to comment on the current service or cost as it’s already well documented.

I wanted to create something that actually delivered what it’s customers paid for, create an alternative option so that their is some much needed competition. But also, drive sustainability and give back to the communities we live in. How does one man take on a corporate giant and compete. Reliability, trust, transparency and honesty. July 2023 was the beginning of the story of one man’s drive and passion to make posting mail locally more affordable.

My plan wasn’t to start in July 2023, it was negative circumstances that altered the planned start date of April 2024.

What was it that forced me to start earlier than I had planned?

There were a number of factors all contributing to a point were I felt morally conflicted every day putting on my famous red work shirt. Without dwelling to much a few years earlier one of my closest work colleagues had took his own life, came into work finished his shift and went home and ended his life. For months my whole life was consumed with questions I could never get answers too. Nobody had an answer, we only had maybes.

In 2023 we were in the midst of a very long strike. Redundancies had been offered, and then taken away. And what followed could only be described as madness. Sacking after sacking for the most ridiculous things. The week before I handed my notice in 11 posties got sacked for taking their break in a car park cos they were not allowed to use the facilities in their own office to take a break. Six got reinstated, one immediately found another job and four remained sacked. They later won their tribunals in court but none of them would ever have wanted to work for Royal Mail again. Anyway after their dismissal’s I went home and wrote a letter of resignation.

Foolish, impetious, stupid, crazy, insane or brave, honourable, passionate and desperately seeking justice. Whatever it was I don’t regret it and I am a better person for it.

The following week I launched a massively under prepared Local Postal Solutions. What follows is the story of financial disaster, mental hardship and the most physically challenging two years of my working life……

Next Part 2 - July 2023 to July 2025- The story of Local Postal Solutions.

Not just a postman
