Christmas Post Box has closed

Finally the collecting of Christmas post has finished. It has been an amazing response and we have collected over 1300 Christmas cards, approximately 800 have been delivered leaving us with 500 to deliver this week. A minimum of £130 has been raised for charity and £260 has been saved collectively by all our customers. We look forward to completing delivery this week on the trusty bike. With many customers asking for the boxes to remain in the shops all year round, we will certainly put plans in place but they won't be reappearing till after January at the earliest.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our post box hosts who have all been phenomenal with their support for Local Postal Solutions and have given up their time and their resources to bring this service to the Wirral residents. Next year with better planning more hosts and greater awareness of our brand we hope to elevate our Christmas post boxes to even more customers. It has been a privilege delivering your Christmas cards in 2023, people are so much more appreciative of hand written mail, it causes a little bit of excitement.

With the hand written mail in mind, this year we would like to encourage (when our post boxes re open) more letter writing. It is a dying art, but is something that is always fondly received. These days with modern technology, it's somewhat understandable that people choose to e-mail, text message or WhatsApp. But all these modern forms of communication lack so many things. Firstly, they lack character. You never get a true sense of a person through reading a typed e-mail. They lack heart, a hand written letter is more likely to pull at the heart strings than some generic typing in Times New Roman font. I think the most important thing about a hand written letter sent through the post is it's not time bound. How many times have you sent a text message and got frustrated waiting for a reply. A hand written letter is sent and the sender doesn't know when the recipient receives it, and as your not tethered to the phone when you receive it, the sender isn't seeking any form of gratification, certainly not instantly. It allows the sender to write and speak freely in one whole message, no instant responses and part conversations. It allows the reader to read in their own time, when they are relaxed and ready. Not trying to reply whilst in work or cooking dinner. The art of communication in a somewhat old form of letter writing might be becoming unpopular. But, if you imagine receiving a hand written letter, the curiosity, the anticipation and the joy that someone has spent that time to just communicate with you away from modern technology. The benefits for peoples mental health and happiness in a world were people often feel left out or isolated, could be immense. Start thinking about who you would like to send a letter too on the Wirral and from early next year we will be honoured to deliver it on your behalf.

Not just a postman.
